Description
Good Evening!Up on the docket is a pair of vintage 1979 Sony MDR-3 stereo headphones. These were released alongside the original 1979 Sony Walkman in two variants; the MDR-3L2 and the MDR-3 being sold here.
They are in excellent condition spare one flaw, a small cut in the rubber leading to the right earphone from before I bought them originally, however it doesn't affect their performance.
New orange foam earpads
have been installed due to the original earpads having been lost long ago.
Despite being such old earphones they actually sound quite decent, especially when plugged into a proper cassette deck or audio system! [I'm going to miss them :(]
These headphones use the larger 6.35 headphone jack which means they can't be used on 3.5mm jack devices like Walkmans without an adapter. (Picture 8 shows a comparison)
They come from a smoke-free, pet-free home.
Fun fact!
These headphones were specifically designed for the Sony Walkman in '79 specifically as light-weight headphones! Part of the design process was getting them small and light enough to be worn as someone walked or moved while listening to their Walkman!
The Walkman they debuted with was the Sony TPS-L2, the original Walkman from '79 that has gained recent fame due to appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy!
